Hello I’m Jada.
I am a 27-year old software engineer, blogger, web designer, and general all-around creator. I currently work as a full-stack engineer at a Fortune 100 tech company out of the DMV area. I studied Computer Science at the University of Maryland: College Park. While I struggled at the beginning of my college career and ended up on academic probation the first semester, I managed to pull myself up and am blessed to get to where I am today. I started blogging on Medium shortly after starting work. I blogged about my experiences in tech and my experiences "adulting." To my surprise, I got a lot of positive feedback. I have received over 27K views on Medium and have been published in popular Medium publications, including The Ascent, The Post-Grad Survival Guide, Code Like A Girl, and COSY. I’ve also created my own Medium publication This is Adulting. I want to continue sharing my experiences as a black woman in the tech world and the real world with you all here.
What is Girl with a Side of Nerd?
I am what I call a Girl with a Side of Nerd. What does that mean exactly? As a 27-year-old woman, I have many hobbies that are “typically” linked with being a girl, such as going to the mall, painting, writing, knitting, dancing, and watching The Bachelor. But I also have hobbies that are “typically” considered nerdier such as reading, video games, puzzles, sudoku, deep diving through Wikipedia and, most importantly – coding. So put all that together, and you get me – a Girl with a Side of Nerd or Girl with Nerd for short.
I want to use this space to also promote myself and share my love for creating. Whether it’s a “girly” thing or a “nerdy” thing or just an insight into my life, I want to share that with people here so they get to know me a bit better.
